How can veneers be applied?
Watch a short explanatory video in which Dr. Uriel Avidan, the medical director of the Estetic Medical Center, discusses veneer techniques in detail.
Aesthetic dental veneers can be performed in three ways:
-
Laminate veneers
-
Lumineer veneers
-
Composite veneers
We will now discuss each method’s differences, advantages, and disadvantages.
Porcelain laminate veneers
It is a common and well-known method. Computer simulations are used to prepare porcelain laminate veneers. The dentist knows with 100% certainty how the veneers will look before they are created. The tooth is smoothed by about half a millimeter before the procedure. The porcelain veneer is then placed on the prepared tooth.
Usually, porcelain laminate veneers are placed on the four front teeth. The quality of the treatment is determined by the quality of the laboratory where the veneer is fabricated, the quality of the material, and the professionalism of the dentist. At the Estetic Center, we place a high value on working with the best suppliers in Israel and on the professionalism of the dentists.

The advantages of Porcelain laminate veneers
-
The strength of the tooth is minimally damaged (in some cases, there is no damage at all, and this is our goal when choosing the ultimate method)
-
Among the three methods, this is the most effective and durable
-
Teeth can be perfectly matched in color and tone
-
There is no fading of the color
-
Dental crowns are compatible with those veneers
The disadvantages of Porcelain laminate veneers
-
Among the three methods, this treatment procedure has the highest price
-
A veneer may break under extreme pressure (a strong blow as a result of an accident, or biting into a hard substance by mistake) – if this occurs, you will need to redo the procedure.
Composite veneers
The technique does not require polishing beforehand. During treatment, the patient’s teeth are coated with a special bonding material similar to the one that is used in white fillings. Then the bonding material is hardened by a special device.
In one single session, the treatment is relatively simple, and the results are immediate and aesthetic. Among the three methods, this is the cheapest. It is important to note that the attending dentist has a wide variety of colors to choose from.
The advantages of Composite veneers
-
Fast and very cheap
-
Allows for the restoration of broken teeth
-
Come in a wide variety of colors
The disadvantages of Composite veneers
-
Due to the veneer’s lack of transparency, it is harder to give the teeth a natural look.
-
The composite color changes over time, so it is best to choose a lighter tone and prepare for a future change.
-
The composite layer may crack or fracture over time
Lumineer veneers
This is the newest and most advanced technique of the three. A quarter-millimeter-thick veneer is installed on the teeth as part of the treatment. There is no need to polish the tooth during this procedure. The Lumineer veneer can be applied to any tooth in the mouth. This treatment can also be completed in one session, making it the fastest.
The advantages of Lumineer veneers
-
It’s very inexpensive and fast
-
Allows for the restoration of broken teeth
-
A wide variety of colors
The disadvantages of Lumineer veneers
-
The procedure is not suitable for all patients – it can only be done with straight teeth
-
The veneer cannot be applied to one single tooth
-
As a result of the thin veneer’s thickness, the shade of the tooth cannot be customized
