A technique for placing a supporting bridge on four implants was documented in 1977; in 1990, methods for implanting with immediate loading and installing posterior support were introduced.

An overview of the method

With this method, only four to six implants are placed per jaw, and it can be used to implant several consecutive teeth or all the teeth in the jaw at once. Additionally, this method is suitable for people with bone deficiency in the back jaw, which prevents a normal implant from being placed.

Using the All-on-4 method, only four implants are inserted in places that bear the most load on teeth, according to studies. For people with a weaker jaw or other similar cases, all-on-6 implants may become necessary for assembling bridges that comprise the person’s entire dental set.
